About VetMyCar

VetMyCar was built after one too many close calls buying a used car — checklists online that said "check the tyres" without explaining what that actually meant, or why it mattered. We wanted something that told you what to look for, in plain English, and why it's worth the two minutes it takes.

What we do

VetMyCar combines free, official vehicle data with a structured inspection process:

  • Free MOT history — pulled directly from DVSA's official records, including why a car failed its MOT in the past, not just pass/fail.
  • A 47-point inspection checklist — covering what to check before you travel to see a car, during the viewing, and after you've agreed to buy it. Every item comes with a plain-English explanation of why it matters.
  • Optional paid checks — a vehicle history check (finance, write-off, stolen status) and a market valuation, priced separately so you only pay for what you actually need.

Who it's for

Anyone buying a used car in the UK — whether it's your first car or your fifth, private sale or dealer forecourt. No car knowledge required; that's the point.

Where the data comes from

MOT and vehicle data comes from DVSA's official MOT History API. Vehicle history and valuation checks are supplied by Check Car Details, a UK vehicle data provider. VetMyCar doesn't create or verify this data ourselves — we make it accessible and easy to understand.
